The Giving Garden offers a weekly food pantry and urban garden to the communities of Brookhaven, Parkside, Woodlyn, Morton, Wallingford and North Chester Widener area. As a relief organization we have offered a wide range of programming that includes nutrition classes, recipes and financial/housing coaching.
We serve as an outreach center working in partnership with DIFAN, (Delaware County's interfaith food network.) We also serve as a member agency of Philabundance and the Global Hunger Fund of Send Relief.
POP-UP FOOD PANTRIES
Pop Up Food Pantries
Since 2016 we have offered pop up food pantries in the Widener University Academy Hill area. We partner with student Fraternity, Sorority and Athletic houses to distribute food to the hungry. The clientele we serve is a mix of college students and community home owners who struggle with food insecurity. The program was conceived by our student volunteers from PSC Bonner program. Their desire was to take food directly to those in need.
CHESTER SOCCER FOR SUCCESS
We partner with Widener University Soccer and Stetser Elementary School with a pilot program where we offer a Pop Up Pantry to serve children in need. The program is staffed by student volunteers and community members.
We are collaborating with Philabundance through their fresh produce program and with other corporate donors of food in kind gifts. We still need donations of gift cards to purchase items that these donors aren't able to provide.
If we can raise funding and support we have been invited to expand the program to all five Soccer for Success school locations this year.
